Mayumi is a London-based musician. Originally trained as a classical pianist, she sings and plays all the instruments (guitars/bass/drum machine) for her songs. Her music has been compared to Cure, Bjork, Joy Division and My Bloody Valentine. The ethereal vocals and atmospheric guitar sounds that sometimes go extreme, are driven by the catchy bass and fresh, unique drum patterns. Together they create an aural landscape that is both uplifting and haunting.
Born in Japan, Mayumi moved to London to study (like Blur and Placebo she went to Goldsmiths' College). She played in a few bands as a singer-guitarist before releasing a debut solo single 'Platinum' on Pale Blue Records in '97. After a college radio hit 'Crystallize', she took over the label and continued to release her materials until 2000.
After noticing that her old CDs were fetching bids on eBay, she made a comeback in 2006 with Myriad Luminescent EP. The initial copies sold out and the new 4 track maxi single will be out on 5 Nov 2007.
