Diary - Nov 05

It was a long time ago , we went to see Tim in his flat in Camden Town. I was in a band at that time - I joined as a singer but soon started playing guitar. At the same time I was also playing guitar in an all-girl band which soon dissolved. Tim was a regular gig goer and was like a walking encyclopaedia of indie music, and on that day he played a record by Ecstasy of St Theresa, claiming that they were better than My Bloody Valentine. I wasn't sure - it was almost frightening and even disturbing - a sheer sonic assault, and in a real sense that there wasn't much enjoyment.

Then about a year later, I happened to watch a video by them again in a friend's house but this time it did the trick. The song was called 'Fluidum' and they had progressed - it sounded their own and simply awesome. By that time the band I was in had split and I was forming a new band, that's when I wrote a song called 'Silver Kiss' - which was to become 'Snow Flake Beach'. I just wanted to say how much I liked 'Fluidum' and wanted to sing about the particular way it made me feel. So I guess it was a love song, only that it wasn't dedicated to a beau, but....to a song! As a band we played this song a lot on stage but never recorded it for a demo. I'd forgotten about it since then - until recently when I came across my original recording I made in my old 4 track. After a fresh listen I thought it had some potential so I decided to re-arrange and record it properly.

So this month I was back in the studio remixing 'Snow Flake Beach'. I had already recorded the track and done the 'cosmic version' mix and normal mix in August, but I wanted to do something a little extreme this time. The session went well despite that it was a quick, early morning session on Monday - actually, we did it before the studio opened for the day's session! When everything was finished I took all the recordings to a mastering studio then started taking photos for the CD artworks and designing them. I though I could relax a little now that I finished the recording but not - November was a mad busy month!

And years after I heard that sonic assault at Tim's place, I was searching for the record desperately - suddenly it started to haunt me and I had to hear it again. I got the album on eBay in the end - it still frightens me in a way that no other bands do, but for some reason it also moves me and I keep playing it...
